Musings of Kev the Kiwi: Ponder some of life’s biggest questions with an eccentric electrician
Sorry! I don’t do normal!
Someone once said that there are only two ways of learning, either by experience of your own mistakes, or by listening to those that have made the same mistakes before you. That is probably a little simplistic, but there is also a lot of truth in that!
I may be only 59 years old, but, boy, have I made some mistakes in my life! I have learned some very hard lessons! It gets very frustrating when you know something as absolute fact, yet people will say, “Who are you? What do you know? Why should I listen to you?”
You become a voice in the wilderness, crying out, hoping someone will take heed!
Three examples of this in my life, (not due to any great personal tragedies I might add, but from listening to others of great wisdom and having the discernment to recognise truth), are as follows:
The privatisation of New Zealand Railways disaster:
Thousands of people lost their jobs, little money was re-invested in R+D and infrastructure, bosses were paid huge salaries, shareholders were paid big dividends, then it was sold as an uneconomic cot case!
Splitting up the electrical generation and supply system:
This was supposed to create competition and provide consumers ‘options’ that will drive down prices. All it meant was that there were now multiple CEO’s on million dollar salaries wanting to make big profits for shareholders!
Huge sea rises due to polar ice melting:
Try melting a big block of ice in some water and see what happens to the water level! Water in solid form (ice), displaces more area than in liquid form, that is why it floats!
You could argue that it is easy to criticise after the event is over, but I like my writing to both entertain and invoke thoughtful discussion on principles that matter.
I write fact and fiction, poetry and prose, songs and sermons, ditties and dirges, sonnets and sonatas; anything that comes into my head.
It’s been interesting that in my latest book, Musings of Kev the Kiwi, I have discussed my interest and ideas in both perpetual motion generation and running a motor on water. Since publication, I have been in contact with people that have done both. It doesn’t worry me that someone else has beaten me to it. I am really pleased that my thoughts were on track and what I want to do is quite achievable.
The most important things in life are love and relationships. Get your relationship right with God, family, and those around you, and you are on the right track to happiness. Throw in tolerance and accepting that others may have differing opinions, and it gets even better! Oh, and don’t forget to laugh!
My favourite quotes are:
“Growing old is compulsory, growing up is optional!”
The outside definitely ages quicker than the inside!
“One thing worse than a person who doesn’t know, is a person who doesn’t know he doesn’t know!”
Someone who knows they don’t know will ask. Others will make a fool of themselves.
The word trip:
A picture paints a thousand words,
Or so the story goes.
But a picture is just a static thing,
It can’t change or grow!
I will use but simple words,
That dwell up from the heart,
To paint a picture in your mind,
As clear as any art.
As the story goes on, the picture changes,
Like a movie on a screen.
Your imagination takes you places
That you have never been.
With the story ended and the last words read,
This book is put away,
But your heart’s desire is a crave for more,
Another trip, another day!
As you read my books, you will be both entertained and inspired.
Enjoy!
